Intrauterine Insemination (Artificial insemination / IUI)
IUI (Intra-Uterine Insemination) is where sperm from a male partner (or from a donor) is washed, prepared and optimised and inserted through a woman’s cervix, directly into her womb, in perfect synchrony with her ovulation. IUI can be performed during a “natural” cycle or in combination with ovulation induction. IUI has lost popularity since IVF (In Vitro Fertiliztion) was developed.
There are still some situations where you and Dr Raelia Lew may feel IUI is a treatment worth trying. IUI has the advantage of being less invasive to women than IVF, as an egg collection procedure is not required.
