Secondary Infertility is the medical term used to describe infertility experienced now by people who were fertile before.

Secondary infertility can feel puzzling and frustrating. A reason is usually present. A common reason is couples getting older, associated with egg and sperm quality decline. Other reasons however may be related to hormone imbalances, acquires autoimmune conditions, new uterine structural abnormalities, progressive conditions such as adenomyosis and endometriosis leading to fallopian tube blockages, growth of uterine fibroids, development of pelvic or uterine adhesions.

The list goes on for males too. Sperm production problems or obstructive blockages stopping sperm from being released with ejaculation can develop. Lower sexual frequency and libido can be a problem faced by couples as time goes by as can sexual difficulties and disorders or erection and ejaculation. Sperm quality declines with advancing male age, but it can also decline associated with developing problems such as scrotal varicose veins known as varicocoles.

If you are having trouble getting pregnant, reach out for help. Some problems if discovered can be successfully treated. In other circumstances, assisted reproductive treatments such as IVF can be the answer.
